The New York Times reports on NYPD officers placing bags containing iPods and credit cards in public places like subway trains so they can felony arrest whoever finds them – if they walk by a uniformed police officer holding the goods without reporting it.

Now, I admit, if you find something that doesnt belong to you, you either leave it in case the owner remembers where they left it, or you give it to a police officer you walk by a minute later.

However, baiting people into this is just ridiculous.

I saw a profile about this on NY1 and totally felt bad for one guy who said he got ‘caught’ picking up a wallet, but was in a rush and had planned on returning to its rightful owner once he got to work. He was treated like a criminal.
