Subway Lifts to Get Ankle Monitor

December 17th, 2007 by Chris (Admin) · No Comments

Broken EscalatorIf there is any worse kick in the pants after the late train, the broken AC, the fare increases, and the sticky something you didnt notice *before* you took the stinky seat next to the head, its facing a broken escalator on the subway.

OK, thats a huge exaggeration - but for some people who are less athletic then most, or get about via wheelchair or walker, an out of service escalator or elevator can really be a pain in the ass.

To add insult to injury, it seems MTA just doesnt really know when one of its over 300 escalators and elevators breaks down, unless (a) someone notices and (b) tells someone who can do something about it.

Read about how they plan to fix this after the jump.

Evidentally, MTA plans to electronically monitor all of their escalators and elevators, and already have the system installed in 44 locations around the subway system.

Good news!
