On one of my grumpier days earlier in February I gave a bit of lip to the flash mob improvisational group with the website ImprovEverywhere.com.
Well, I’m going to cut them some slack on their McDonald’s hijinks for two reasons:
1. It certainly isn’t a flash mob.
2. I appreciate the brave souls who invest their time and energy into public displays of marginal humor value ‘just for the art’.
The entire Boston Hunger Teen Aqua Force LED Bomb Fiasco (while actually a marketing ploy), really cast a chilling effect over the idea of spontaneous harmless fun in public, and I like see people like ImprovEverywhere get militant about it being the standard bearer of bringing that back.
So, although I find the humor value of their 2005 ‘Washroom Attendant In Times Square McDonald’s’ prank marginal, I do support the effort on philosophical grounds.
