Although the new M8 cars are already in production, the sub-headline of the M8 press release on Governor Rell’s site indicates that DOT and Metro-North are still entertaining customer feedback on final interior design.
Not one to pass up the opportunity to offer up solicited opinion (let alone unsolicited), we offered a suggestion on the MTA Suggestion Form.
In brief, we thought it would be cool if there was something on the backs of seats, around eye-level, that people could attach their iPhone or other media player to, so that commuters could watch their video at a comfortable eye-level.

I use my iPod Touch to watch movies whenever I travel on Metro-North, and trying to get in a comfortable position without neck strain is difficult, and you always have to hold the iPod in your hand.
A simple tight strap which stuff could be ‘clipped onto’ would be perfect, as just about every mobile phone and media player has a case available with a clip.
This could be added to any existing train as well very easily, is inexpensive, and could be easily repaired and replaced.
Got a great idea for Metro-North’s new train interior’s? Post it in the comments!
If its good enough I might just make a similarly awful photoshop mockup of it.

[...] Now if they only had an attachment so it would stick to the back of a Metro-North seat. [...]
