Trainjotting really put it best when they wrote “This is just awful in every way”.

This morning at 8:31 Teresa Fiorentino, 75, of Croton-On-Hudson, was stuck and killed by an Amtrack train after falling onto the tracks while having a cigarette at the Croton-Harmon station.

Teresa was legally blind and operated a newsstand over the tracks.

The driver applied the emergency brakes when he saw the woman, but it was insufficient to stop the train in time.

Update: The New York Times remembers Teresa Fiorentino.
