NYT City Desk: MTA Installing Custom Lampposts Honoring Long Lost Trifurcation

Monday we reported on how MTA was postponing important subway upgrades promised prior to the fare hike due to economic conditions.

I guess these same economic conditions had absolutely no effect on their spending thousands of dollars on custom wrought-iron lamp posts and handrails in 3 distinct styles to personally reflect historical origins of the different subway lines which no longer exist (The IRT, BMT, and IND).

I bitch and moan about this in light of the postponed upgrades, but the fact is that if MTA back-burnered projects like this to every service upgrade, we would’nt have these special little touches which make New York so great.

So you’re off the hook on this one, MTA.

Via The New York Times City Desk (which I also thank for the word of the day ‘Trifurcate’, which I stole and probably improperly conjugated for this headline)
