In Canton, Mass tuesday afternoon a CSX Freight car loaded with lumber rolled off a side track onto a main line for 2 miles, colliding with a stopped MBTA Commuter train with over 300 passengers on board.

Dozens of passengers were sent to local hospitals, most with minor injuries, none life-threatening.

The commuter train was stopped by the engineer when he noticed a warning from a track signal that something was on his line:

The crash started a small brush fire near the accident site.

Passenger, Gary Rozenas, 55, described the scene to to the Boston Herald:

“All the lights went out and people were flying down the aisles and people were on the floor of the car,” he said. “The car began filling up with dust and the scary part was part of the woods was burning up outside the doors.”
