An LIRR commuter train derailed at Jamaica Station in Jamaica, Queens, after striking another train this morning at 10AM, suspending Eastbound service until 10:56 AM.

The 9:35AM from Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn due in Hempstead left the tracks after hitting the 9:34 from Penn Station to Huntington.

There were 150 people on each train. LIRR Spokeswoman Susan McGowan said there were no injuries, but some sources are reporting that there were some minor injuries.

NYFD spokesman Chris Villarroel said it was a “minor low impact collision” between two LIRR trains.

Riders reported the ride getting ‘very bumpy’ and some smoke appearing from under the train. At 6PM tonight repairs are still being made to the tracks and especially a switch which Channel 2 reports is under suspicion in the accident.

Trains on the LIRR were canceled, combined and delayed throughout the day.

Channel 2 and 1010 Wins reports that Penn Station isn’t all that out of joint tonight, everyone seems to be taking it in stride, with most delays under 30 minutes.

Comically, a Channel 2 Anchor introduced the live report tonight with ‘It’s a NIGHTMARE for THOUSANDS of commuters tonight…’, only to have the live report and the passengers interviewed be totally casual and downplay the situation.

In related news a 61-year-old man was struck and killed by an LIRR train in Brentwood yesterday, early reports indicate it may have been a suicide.
