Have you ever watched a town meeting on local cable and thought - “man, I wish something interesting would happen!” Well stay tuned for some great video, but read the backstory.
The Town of Fairfield has this super-duper big project dubbed the Fairfield Metro Center - a $320M development which includes a brand new Metro-North station connected to about a million square feet of new office and retail space, plus an 11-acre preserve and a Hilton Hotel.
This project has been in serious public turmoil recently, as First Selectman Ken Flatto dismissed the town’s Conservation Commission, which was charged to oversee the wetlands-based project, and replaced it with the consulting firm of Redniss & Mead. Flatto argued that the Conservation Committee was holding up the project, making it impossible for developer Blackrock Realty to proceed (isn’t that what Conservation Commissions are for?).
What’s worse, its argued that Flatto did not have the authority to do this, and overstepped the town charter by not holding a public hearing on the matter. Yawn! (still with me?) But wait…
In this video, the chairman (I dunno his name) prohibits Chester Burley (the guy from the original Conservation Commission at the end of the table) from speaking (since the committee was dismissed from the project months ago)…
(If Al Pacino was at this meeting, he would have said ‘NO - YOU’RE OUT OF ORDER!’.)
In the next video, Flatto(?) has someone removed from the meeting by police… for yelling ‘Free Tibet’.
In the final video, Flatto shows up for a meeting, but for some reason he is arguably not part of this non-public meeting, and the whole peanut gallery starts hooting like a bunch of geese.
