A man was struck and killed by an Amtrack train in Stratford Saturday shortly after 4:30 PM, reports newstimes.com.
The identity of the victim was not reported, nor has the cause of the accident. All 230 passengers on the Boston-Washington, DC #135 train, which had just stopped in New Haven, remained on board while the scene was attended by the medical examiner and police.
connpost.com reports that the accident happened on the southbound track behind BJ’s Wholesale Club, about a quarter-mile east of the train station.
Last year three men were killed on the Metro-North tracks in Stratford, after which an 8-ft high fence was installed to prohibit trespassing - there is, however, a door in the fence leading to the tracks.
NBC30 reports that the man had managed to get out of the way of an oncoming Northbound train when crossing the tracks, but was unable to avoid the oncoming Southbound train. The man will need to be identified by dental records, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.
