Greenwich High School Student Tased

Yikes what is it with the FC kids this week? First Westport Middle School students are sending naked pictures of themselves over the internet, now a Greenwich High student has been tasered for not reporting to the headmasters office.

I am not one of those people who gets all up in arms when someone gets tasered (my opinion: you had to be there to know if it was appropriate), but this one sounds pretty lame. I have seen kids get off the hook in school before, the best approach is usually to let them go and deal with them when they are calmed down later.

But in 2008, High Schools have their own police force, so, if a student gets out of line, they can just nip it in the bud by tasering them. Oh and then they get arrested. That would have never happened back in the day – schools dealt with stuff internally – their goal was to *prevent* kids from getting arrested.

I guess this isn’t such a bad idea, since nowadays pissed off kids go home and come back with a bagful of guns sometimes. Still, it seems that some stuff that would have been de-escalated back in the day now gets escalated.

Curiously, the era of the school shooter somewhat emerged at *my* high school, the year after I graduated. My friend’s younger brother showed up at school with a shotgun in 1986. School shooting was so unheard of back then, no one was alarmed by this – everyone just assumed it was a school play prop or something. But it wasn’t. He fired some shots in the school, but didn’t hit anyone. Sadly, he was killed by police.
