Car Hit By Metro-North Train In Poorly Named New York Town, No Injuries

OK, first I want to apologize that I have never heard of the town of Southeast, NY.

Actually, maybe I have heard of this town. For all I know, I have heard of it many times. How would I even know? Because the name of the town is freaking ‘Southeast’!!!

I want to take this opportunity to chastise the descendants of whomever named the town for doing something as stupid as naming a town after a compass direction.

I mean, I guess it could be worse – you could name it after a map coordinate, like ‘G7′, or maybe you could incorporate it with the name ‘Unincorporated, NY’, or maybe the misspelling of a nearby town over the border, e.g. ‘Danbery‘.

But probably what bothers me most of all, is that, yeah, it is in Southeastern New York, but it isnt all THAT Southeast. Now New York City – that’s Southeast.

Sometimes I wish I could get unknowable statistics from God. For example, I would like to ask God ‘how many people in the history of NY have gotten confused and lost because someone decided to name a town in NY ‘Southeast’?

OK enough.

Two women in SOUTHEAST, NY were in a car and they stalled on the tracks at the Route 312 crossing.

Unlike some people, they were smart and abandoned the vehicle before a southbound Metro-North train carrying 5 passengers slammed into it, causing minor damage to the train. No one was hurt. The 5 passengers squeezed into a cab.

the town of “southeast” actually encompasses the southeast corner of putnam county, a suburban county of over 100,000 residents only 50 miles from grand central. Southeast is also known as “brewster” which if you have a car and drive in new york, you would have already heard of. since most of the people who live in the “town” of southeast lives in the “village” of brewster, the entire town is sometimes known by the name of the village. its a really nice place, very tranquil and a charming place to live and to have grown up in, with a name that is closely related historically to the development of the county as a whole
