Steve Jobs announced pricing of the new Apple 3G iPhone on Monday at the Apple Worldwide Developers conference.
In a rumored but still surprising move, the new iPhone will retail for $199 and $299 for the 8 and 16 GB models, respectively.
The high price of the original iPhone was identified by Apple as a major roadblock to sales.
