Why We Must Impeach Bush [Impeach Bush!]

OK, I am going to go all political on your asses….sorry….but..

Why is Bush still President?

  • He completely failed to help Americans during the worst natural disaster of our time (Katrina).
  • We were misled into war in Iraq, and 5 years later we’re still there. (for that matter, why are we still in Afghanistan?)
  • We torture people now, and imprison them indefinitely without a trial
  • Gas is nearly $5 a gallon.
  • Global warming? Not happening.
  • The housing market is a national disaster for families across the US.
  • Unemployment is up.
  • Three names: Cheney, Rove, and Gonzales
  • The Valerie Plame incident, and subsequent imprisonment of reporters
  • Not that anyone notices anymore, but we are still in a massive healthcare crisis

The list goes on and on.

Bush is the worst president we have ever had. He has ruined our countries reputation globally and broken the constitution. He’s put our troops in harms way unnecessarily and gotten thousands of US and Iraqis killed.

He’s bad in just about every way a President can be bad - he’s failed in the most critical and powerful roles of his position to the worst of results, and brought to bear the biggest failure of any President - unending war.

He has had the biggest challenges of any President in the past 35 years - maybe more - but he hasn’t handled them well. A relevant domestic agenda is nowhere to be seen - and his wars are driving us deeper and deeper into debt. In the time it took you to read this paragraph, he has spent $44,000 on the war in Iraq - over half a trillion dollars to date.

That’s just Iraq, not Afghanistan.

Dennis Kucinich has submitted articles of impeachment for Bush, it looks like it will probably not happen before Bush leaves office.

The Constitution does not specify incompetence as an impeachable offense. It specifies “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors”. Although Kucinich specifies the misleading marketing of the Iraq war as high crime, there is also an argument that whatever a majority of congress defines as an ‘impeachable offense’ - is one.

The crime Kucinich refers to may indeed have been a crime itself, although it would have to be thoroughly investigated in trial, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the outcome was that it was not technically a crime - or at least provable.

I would rather we all agree that - hey, we are going to impeach Bush because we all know we have to. We are going to impeach him because we need to change - not after the next election, but as soon as possible - now. We cannot allow the ‘Bush’ brand of America continue to be displayed on our packaging. It’s not who we are.

We need to agree that Presidential failure on this scale is an impeachable offense in and of itself.

30 years ago, we impeached a president for burglary. 10 years ago, we tried to impeach a president for adultery. What happened? Is Bush *less* impeachable than Nixon? Is Bush less worthy of impeachment proceedings than Clinton?

Impeaching Bush is essential to the future of our country - even if we do it on the last day of his term.

We Haven’t Approved Of Him As President For Over Four Years

It been about FOUR YEARS since President Bush has had a positive approval rating from the American people - currently only 3 in 10 Americans approve of the job he’s doing.

We have a representational form of government - but President Bush is clearly not representing us.
How can you keep a President in office whom has not represented his constituency in 4 years?

Failure to remove Bush from office is the worst case of collective negligence on Congress’s part. I thought for sure when Nancy Pilosi took control of the House, Bush was history, Instead, the introduction of the Democratic-led congress has been a complete letdown.

The Democrats are asleep at the wheel - I’m probably more dissapoitned with the Democrats than I am at Bush.

We Need To Send The Rest Of The World A Message

The rest of the world looks at us thinking ‘Is he really representing you, America?’. All they can think is that, if we don’t impeach him, then we support what he’s done and we’re happy with the state of our country. It doesn’t matter how low his approval rating, if we keep him in office, we are telling the rest of the world that we approve of him ‘enough’.

If only we could do something significant to show the rest of the world - hey, all this mess we have made over in Iraq, this torture and hypocrisy, this betrayal of our laws and rights - that’s not us - it’s him.

There is only one action which appropriately begins to apologize for our actions - impeachment.

We Need To Send Our Children A Message

This is probably the part which is the most disturbing. Without impeaching Bush, we have sent a unprecedented message of nihilism and complacency to our children in regards to how much we care about how well our government represents we, the people, and our ideals.

We own the United States. It’s ours. Our President is OUR President. What he does is what we want. He treats other countries and people the way we want to be treated ourselves.

If he doesn’t, we can only blame him for so long - eventually, the blame is on congress - then the blame is on all of us.

Right now, and for a long time, the blame has been on ALL of us.

Bush is the worst president in American history. Bush facilitated the 9/11 attacks. Subsequently, Bush lied to Congress and the American people relative to the reasons for invading Iraq. Bush purposefully misled Congress and the American people. Then, Bush murdered more than 4,000 United States service members. And Bush wounded more than 30,000 United States service members. In torturing prisoners of war, Bush patently violated the Geneva Convention. Bush unlawfully wiretapped United States citizens. In using “signing statements” to challenge hundreds of laws passed by Congress, Bush violated the Constitution. Bush has ignored global warming. Bush is guilty of criminal negligence relative to the response to Hurricane Katrina. Bush disobeys our democratic values and Constitution. Bush is a disgrace to the United States.
