iTunes App Store

Apple has released the new version of iTunes – version 7.7, with the new App store for the 3G iPhone, and iPod Touch and original iPhone with the 2.0 software upgrade.

The 2.0 software has not shown up yet, so you can download apps but you cannot run them on anything yet.

There are a couple of tricks you need to know to download the new version of iTunes and to see the App Store:

1. As I write this iTunes will not show 7.7 being available if you ‘check for updates’ from the iTunes menu. It is, however, available on the iTunes download page.

2. Right now there is no navigation from the iTunes Store to the App Store area. You can get there, however, by searching for an app, selecting it, and then backing up in the menu to the App Store main page, here’s an example:

AOL AIM Application for iPhone, iPod Touch1. Go to iTunes store home page
2. Search the iTunes Store for ‘AOL’.
3. Click on the AIM app.
4. In the breadcrumb menu above the app, click on ‘App Store’
5. Voila!
