It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia [New Fall TV Season]

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
10 p.m. Thursdays, FX (premieres Sept. 18)

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, like The Shield, is must-see TV for me. I miss ‘must-see-tv’ Thursdays of the 90’s, where back to back Friends and Seinfeld showed that not only was the sitcom still viable, but it could also be the best part of the TV schedule.

Sunny is not like Seinfeld. Sunny is not like Friends.

Sunny is to sitcoms what The Shield is to cop dramas – it just takes things over the top (or, more accurately, under the bottom).

Four twenty-something slackers and Danny DeVito (who shows he is still at the top of his game) run a bar in Philly. Morality-free hilarity insues.

In my favorite episode, Dennis and Sweet D (whom are brother and sister) decide that tending an dive bar is just too much work, and decide to go on welfare. In their attempts to qualify, Sweet D feigns mental retardation and both become helplessly addicted to crack cocaine. In another episode, the bar decides to become completely ‘rule-less’, encouraging underage drinking and intravenous drug use on the premises – the climax of this moral descent in the final scene is my favorite Sunny moment.

Sunny is wonderfully un-PC, and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for this season.

I spent most of the afternoon on the couch recovering from this weekend watching sunny. It’s so damn funny. Can’t wait for the new season.
