As some readers may know I am from California and have been on a fairly fruitless quest to find a decent Carnitas burritto around Stamford.

Today I had to go to see the eye doctor on Bank St, cause I was getting a little fuzzy, and he broke the news to me gently that I am getting old and need glasses. Bleh.

As I stumbled out the door $300 lighter and with fully dilated pupils a gang of about 10 angry youths walked by and nearly hit me in the head with a 32-oz coke bottle. 

It was one of those days.

I figured since I wasnt seeing all that well yet I would stop and get something to eat. I considered a nice bowl of Phở at Plateau but the door was locked (side note: Plateau has good Phở).

I decided to check out the Mexican place I had noticed around the corner - ‘Tacos Guadalajara’ - with zero expecations.

From the signage I thought it was a chain, but the take-out menu says they have been family-owned since 1980.

Inside it was clean and tidy and there were a couple of latinas enjoying quesadillas y horchata.

I ordered the Carnitas Super Burritto (Super = with sour cream and guac) with rice and beans.

When it arrived, it looked very freshly prepared but I was still pessimistic.

It was the best burritto I had had in a VERY long time (except when my wife brings me home one on the train from Chipotle at Grand Central), and the Carnitas was perfect.

Curiously, they were out of sour cream and guac (!?), but I didn’t mind, because the damn thing was delicious just as it was - tomatoes and lettuce very fresh - great rice and beans too - I inhaled the whole thing in about 5 minutes, and immediately ordered another one to go - my wife would need to try this.
