Live Webcam Shows The Alaskan View Of Russia Sarah Palin Has Never Seen

Recently Gary Tuchman of CNN hauled his ass up to the island of ‘Little Diomedes’ – the part of Alaska where you can indeed see Russia. The residents say not only has Sarah Palin never been there, no Alaskan governor ever has. You can actually see the view live from this webcam. (requires Java).

If you watch it for more than 60 seconds, I would imagine you officially have more foreign policy experience than McCain’s Vice-Presidential choice (according to her own criteria).

BTW, since the international dateline is between Alaska and Russia, it is tomorrow on the other side of the strait. I am surprised that Palin has not claimed that she can see the future from her house as well.

Here’s the Tuchman CNN piece:

    Hello,

Thanks for the link. The link you provided also has a better URL:

It really is looking right across the International Dateline, too. In other words, if it is Thursday here (it is), then it is Friday on the island you can see across the water.

One point of fact: the CNN crew faked it in the video segment. They said it was Tuesday….it was filmed on Monday, and they were only there for about two hours. My wife flew out on the chopper with them. The reporter pretended it was Tuesday because they knew it would be aired then ;-)

Also, there is an incinerator on the island now that most people use for garbage. They don’t typically throw it in the water anymore, but some residents still do from time-to-time.

Um….Chris, Sarah Palin did not say that she could see Russia from her home. She said, “You can see Russia from parts of her “Home State”.

You watch too much SNL, by the way Obama did say there were 57 states. Good times

I cannot believe how many people I run across who are still quoting Tina Fey and saying Sarah Palin said it.Of course, what would you expect from people who watch a show where a guy is shooting ping pong balls out his rear.

The ‘see Russia from my house’ quote is Fey’s satirization of Palin’s inane response to Charlie Gibson’s question as to why Palin felt she had foreign policy experience simply because Russia was close to Alaska.

Despite never being authorized whatsoever to manage foreign policy between the United States and any other country, Palin insisted throughout her campaign that Alaska’s proximity to Russia somehow imbued its governor with foreign policy experience.

Its not really relevant that whether she could see Russia from her house or not – it was her laughable assertion that was the core of the joke.
