StationStops.com is proud to announce the launch of ‘StationStops for iPhone’ on the iTunes App Store today. StationStops is an iPhone App which keeps the Metro-North Grand Central Terminal timetable stored on your iPhone, and allows you to quickly find your next train to or from Grand Central, without an internet connection.

The whole reason I started the StationStops.com blog and Metro-North schedules was that when I first started riding Metro-North, I was surprised at how awkward it was to get access to the schedule wherever you were at the time – which all too commonly was on a train, on the subway, or otherwise underground.
If I was leaving the city at a time I don’t usually commute at, I wanted to be able to just glance at my phone and with a minimum of effort, see when the next few trains were leaving.
That’s exactly what StationStops for iPhone does. Just tap your station, weekday or weekend schedule, to or from Grand Central, and you get a list of all regularly scheduled trains for the day. You can scroll through the trains to find the one you want, or, even better, just tap any train, and the app will automatically scroll to the next regularly scheduled departure based on the current time!
StationStops for iPhone also provides Peak and Off-Peak fare information, and indicates weekend trains which only travel on Saturday, as well as arrival and travel times.
Since the entire schedule is kept on the iPhone, an internet connection is never required.
StationStops for iPhone contains information for all Metro-North lines East of the Hudson, including the New Haven, Hudson, and Harlem lines, for all trains to and from Grand Central Terminal.
StationStops is available now on the iTunes App Store – click here to get the app on iTunes instantly.

app looks good so far. Some suggestions:
Make the to/from grand central buttons selection more clear – I suspect this is just apple’s default color scheme but it’s not obvious which is selected. If possible prevent them from toggling – ie pushing to grand central more than once keeps toggling it, making it unclear whether it’s selected or not. Instead pushing one of them should switch it if that’s not currently selected, otherwise if it is selected already then do nothing.
Make it more clear how to find the next train – it wasn’t initially obvious how to at first.
Need some way of setting my default station – each time I launch it it seems to have forgotten.
Once the default station is set, need a quick “next train” button or link or something – or perhaps a preference to take you right there every time you launch.
Consider adding an option to go online and pull the departing track # for outbound trains.

Excellent! Saves me having to pick up those paper schedules (that I always lose).
Suggestions:
1. Intermediate train stops – allow for selecting a final destination other than Grand Central Terminal.
2. Track numbers coming out of Grand Central (could be a link to the big board online)
3. Service advisories
4. Some way to check for schedule changes from within the app.
Nicely done – this fits an exact need for me.

Beat me to it. Just got my iPhone and was thinking this would be a great app. I’ll have to check it out.

Just downloaded it and tend to agree with some of the commenters.
- It would be nice to be able to save your station – I’m at White Plains so I need to scroll to practically the end of the list every time I want to check the schedule.
- Also, while a link to the Big Board would be nice, I just added the Big Board link from your page to my Safari Bookmarks, so it’s close to the same thing.
- Finally, maybe some tweaking of the schedule format would make it a little simpler. Perhaps a way to see the same name as they are on the Big Board (e.g., the 6:36 which goes to White Plains is called “North White Plains” as that’s the final stop).
But all that said, I was waiting for a way to toss my 8-fold schedules that I have at home, in both my briefcases, in my overnight bag and at my girlfriend’s apartment.
So you just saved some trees. Thanks
