South Norwalk added Wifi-internet access to its station this week, Westport will get it this week, and Stamford next week, reports Wifi Net News.

The installations were made possible by federal grants provided to improve Fairfield County Commerce.

This is great for stations like Stamford where people need to wait for connections!

    1. MTA and Conn DOT are broke.

    2. On a lot of MN trains, most seats will barely accommodate the opening of a 13″ laptop.

    3. Half the users on the trains already have a 3G
phone, the only wifi solution for trains would be redundant 3g-wifi repeaters which still wouldn’t work in tunnels.

    4. The entire current New Haven Line car inventory is being phased out over the next 3 years, so installing new equipment on them has no ROI.

I cant say I blame MNR for not doing wifi on the trains, there really isn’t an appealing technical or financial solution to it, and the growth of 3G devices in commuters hands already is exploding.
