[Update: I just got word minutes ago that all three suspects have been identified and arrests are imminent.]

[ Update: Conductor Bobby was on the train at the time and files this report on Derailed (scroll down a little to '11/16'). ]

MTA has released surveillance photos of the three women wanted for questioning in the Monday attack of a 61-year-old female Metro-North conductor who tried to collect their fare.

The conductor suffered 2 broken fingers and a cut under her right eye.

I will try to get more details, but from reports its likely these photos were taken at the <del datetime="2009-11-20T17:41:21+00:00">Stamford</del>South Norwalk Metro-North station around 4 PM Monday.

Anyone who recognizes these women or has information about the incident should contact the MTA police at 203-337-3708

As my wife is 8 months pregnant with our first child and rides the Metro-North New Haven Line every day, this article in the New York Times City Room was relevant to me personally, and I wanted to repost it as a service to the moms out there. That, and my mom grew up in Park Slope.

My wife insists that, although the New Haven Line has typically been short of seating this season, she never has to stand on the train – someone always offers her a seat.

Thank you so much, everyone, for offering me a seat on the subway when I’ve got my daughter in her stroller or my son in his Bjorn. (Or both.) I would like to rest for a moment; it’s awfully kind of you, indeed. And yes, by all means, you can help me get the stroller up the stairs. Thanks again.

I have just one question: Where were you people when I was pregnant? Oh, right. You were sitting comfortably in your seats. While I stood. In August.

…Read the rest in the New York Times City Room.

There is a new game in town, and I’m going to predict this now: someone is definitely going to get killed doing this. Kids are jumping from one train platform to the other at single-track stations. Its insane.

Obviously one could easily break a leg, get electrocuted, killed by a passing train – or all three at once.

What really makes me mad about platform jumping is that if you don’t make it, and you break your leg and are stuck on the tracks, someone is going to have to go down there and help you get out, then you both get killed. How fun.

NYC Transit spokesman Paul Fleuranges hit it on the head with an email he sent to AMNY Subway Tracker:

“It goes without saying the conduct seen on this video is blatantly unsafe and we strongly advise this young man, or anybody else so inclined, to refrain from jumping on or over subway tracks. Not only is this unsafe, but it is probably a violation of the Rules of Conduct and subject to summons, fine or worse.

“Putting bruises and broken bones aside, there are 600 volts of electricity flowing through a live 3rd rail – more then enough to kill these young men or anybody else who comes in contact with it.

“Youthful indiscretions are one thing, putting yourself in danger for momentary internet glory is something entirely different, and in our view unnecessary given the tragic consequences such behavior could yield notwithstanding the inconvenience an accident would have to customers who use the subway for it’s intended purpose – to get from point A to point B safely.”

60-year-old ex-cop John Clifford has been arrested EIGHT times on the Long Island Railroad for harassing other passengers. Just recently, he was let off again, acting as his own lawyer in successfully being cleared of two misdemeanor offenses.

Whats more, in 1994 he was arrested for (admittedly) striking a fellow female passenger in the head – surely that got him convicted? Nope.

He has been arrested of throwing coffee, cursing, slapping cellphones out of commuters hands, and hoarding entire rows of seats for himself. Basically, this guy is your worst commuting nightmare ever.

One victim described him as “the loudest person on the same train that he’s trying to make quiet,”

Apparently, in his latest appearance, the judge ruled his behavior ‘inappropriate but not illegal’.

Seriously, if a teenager punched a woman in the head on the LIRR, and spent his commutes calling people ‘f***ing faggots’ and slapping cellphones out of their hands, he would be on Riker’s Island right now.

But apparently, if you are a 60-year-old white ex-NYPD, you can be arrested 8 times and everything is still all cool.

One of these days, his shenanigans are going to get even farther out of hand and someone is going to get seriously hurt.

Now, I don’t admit to knowing much about drug enforcement, but today Greenwich Time posted a story today titled ‘Cops make marijuana bust’, reporting that 3 town men were arrested by Greenwich narcotics officers following a Tuesday night stakeout.

Whats funny is that when I read the details of the story:

The ‘three town men’ were teenagers - one 17 (whose name they printed anyway), and two 18-year-olds.

The ‘bust’ was not the result of the ‘stakeout’ (although there was one), but the result of the men having a car accident and the police finding a bag of weed in the car door at the scene.

The amount of the bust was less than four ounces of marijuana, or misdemeanor possession.

Whats more interesting is that they report the amount specifically as “less than 4 ounces” – this is significant because four ounces is the limit for first-offense misdemeanor possesion in Connecticut.

So, my question is – how much less than four ounces was it? Was it a joint? Was it 3.99 ounces? We’ll never know.

I mean, this is the kind of bust my high school principal would make a couple times a school year, and he probably would have just flushed it and gave them all a weeks suspension.

I kind of feel bad for these 3 kids, cause, I mean, in most town newspapers this would barely make the police log, never mind having the paper cook it up a bit in its own article.

It would have been great if they could have gotten a press conference for this with the mayor and police with all the confiscated drugs on display on a giant folding table for press photos.
