StationStops for iPhone – History

When I first started riding Metro-North, I found checking the schedule to be frustrating. If I were leaving from home, I would have to go to my computer and navigate the MTA website schedule while I was rushing out the door. If I was in New York City, I would have to either use the Metro-North website on my phone, or just show up at Grand Central and hope there was an convenient train leaving soon.

Most commonly, I would find myself on the subway headed to Grand Central and want to check the schedule, but as there is no mobile service on the subway, this was impossible unless I had the paper schedule, which I would rarely remember to bring with me.

Once at Grand Central, I would still need to check the video departure board to find my track number, or go downstairs to the lower level monitors to find out the next train headed for my station.

There had to be a better way.

That’s why I wrote StationStops for iPhone. By putting the paper schedule on your iPhone, you can check the Grand Central inbound and outbound trains anytime, with or without an internet connection.

StationStops will automatically scroll to your next departing train based on the current time, so you don’t have to scan the timetable. If you do have an internet connection, it will show you your Grand Central Track number for departure, so you can skip looking over people’s shoulders at the departure screen altogether, and maybe save a little time to get a snack or magazine.

Since I have written the app, I use it all the time. As I do not have a regular work schedule, it is perfect for me as I enter and leave the city at all different times. When going out on the town at night, having StationStops insures I leave for Grand Central on time to get the train I want to take home.

Neither the regular paper Metro-North schedule nor StationStops is reliable for holiday scheduling, so make sure you double-check the latest online schedule for holiday travel. There are also a handful of special exception trains StationStops does not handle, although it is 99% accurate for daily use.

StationStops is not affiliated with MTA or Metro-North, and is not an official Metro-North service.
StationStops is designed for entertainment purposes and is not responsible for typographical or other errors in its schedule.
